Interactive books are what’s keeping baby L entertained at home these days. Fall is coming in hot here in California, mornings are pretty hot and sometimes humid making it impossible to enjoy any time outside. Baby L and I stay inside blasting the air conditioner majority of the day so our activities are somewhat limited. I have noticed baby L loves to interact with certain toys (crunchy sheet sounds still scare him) and he still hates tummy time on the floor, but sucking on his hand and interactive books seem to be the what he really is into these days as a 3 month old babe.

Since fall is right around the corner, I figured I would get baby L ready and acquainted with images he’ll soon be seeing around our neighborhood so I got him these seasonal books. Majority of these books are interactive, meaning he’s able to either hear sounds or touch and feel different textures.
Fall Theme Books
Baby L hates tummy time so I have to jump though hoops with this kid to keep him entertained in this position. One of the things I usually do to keep him on his stomach a little longer is read interactive books by placing the book in front of him. The pictures catches his eye and the sounds bring him back when I notice he’s starting to lose interest.
He loves to look at the high contrast pictures in this book called My First Autum, I usually start by holding this book in front of him and then I move it from one side to the other so he can track the pictures while he’s doing tummy time.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s First Fall is another book I like to hold and read while doing tummy time, the abstract shapes and colors keep him engaged and the short story allows me to read the entire book to him before he starts to feel uncomfortable in that position.
When we are sitting or laying down I usually read to him Touch and Feel Fall or Little Acorn. They’re both great visually! Little Acorn has such a cute story line and visuals but Touch and Feel Fall seems to attract baby L’s attention a little bit more since he sees me interacting with all the textures and I try to help his little hands do the same.
Halloween themed books
I love Halloween and we are a little bit over a month before every house is decorated with Halloween decoration that could scare baby L if he’s not exposed to similar visuals before he actually sees them in person. Chances are he will probably still get startled with some of those crazy and loud decorations but it doesn’t hurt to get him used to some of those sounds with some interactive Halloween themed books.
During tummy time baby L loves Haunted House. The colors are bright and he’s always attentive to the sounds the book makes when I open the flaps. This book keeps him on his tummy longer than any book we have! We use it for tummy time instead of bed time because this book is light activated so it’s hard to hear the sounds with a night light.
Another great book we use during tummy time is called Babies Love Halloween. This book doesn’t make any sounds but it has the flap feature which is something baby L is intrigued with. It is also thick enough that I can stand it on the floor so he can keep his chin up a little longer, and the story is short so I am able to finish the book for my little short span babe.
We were given a pop-up book with baby animals at our baby shower that baby L loves so I had to get a Halloween themed pop-up book! This Pop-up Peekaboo Pumpkin book has bright colors and big flaps that hide big enough pop-ups that keep baby L engaged but doesn’t scare him. We usually read this book during bed time since it’s on the longer side.
Another great Halloween book we read during bed time is You’re My Little Pumpkin Pie. This book is a little shorter but it is colorful! At first I thought this was going to be more of a Thanksgiving themed book but it’s more geared towards Halloween.
Still a great book to tell your little one how much you care about them.
I just ordered another pop-up book similar to the baby animals and pumpkin themed books but with little monsters, a cute little finger puppet book, and a sound book with 10 different spooky sounds that is similar to the book we have called Hear Bear Roar. I can’t wait to read them to my babe and have him interact with them!
