October is just around the corner and I’m prepping for one of my favorite holidays…HALLOWEEN! I couldn’t find a chic Halloween wreath that I liked so I decided to create my own DIY Halloween wreath with a mermaid skeleton.

Items you will need
-Wire Wreath frame
-Spanish moss
-Hot glue gun
-Scissors
-Wreath wire ring
-A mesh of your choice
-About 12 bouquet of fake flowers
-Spider web tinsel decoration
-Mairmaid skeleton
-Stretchy spider web
Create a back layer
You’re going to start gluing the decorative mesh of your choice to the back of an 18 inch or 16 inch wreath ring so the Spanish moss doesn’t fall out when we start to fill out the wreath.
I cut in half a 6 in x 3 yd black mesh to fit the width of the wreath ring and I found the mesh easier to handle if you cut small fragments of about 6 inches long.
Add your tinsel decoration
Once you have hot glued the decorative mesh to the back of the wreath wire, add the tinsel decoration of your choice to the back. I attached the Glow in the dark spider + web tinsel with floral wire at the top, bottom, and sides.
Start to fill out the side of the wreath where you want to place your bouquet of flowers first before filling out the entire wreath with Spanish moss… trust me, it will be less messy.
Add your bouquets of flowers
Now its time to add your flowers! At first I wanted to have 2 bouquets of black hydrangeas and one bouquet of cream or white hydrangeas but I wasn’t able to find black hydrangeas but I noticed the dollar store had purple and cream color hydrangeas, some black and purple dahlias and black and purple roses with eyeballs. I bought a total of 12 bouquets of fake flowers; 4 bouquets of cream color hydrangeas, 4 bouquets of purple hydrangeas, 3 bouquets of black and purple roses with eyeballs, and one bouquet of black and purple Dahlias.
The top bouquet consisted of 2 bouquets of purple hydrangeas, 1 bouquet of black and purple dahlias, and 1 bouquet of black and purple roses with eyeballs. The middle bouquet had 4 bouquets of cream color hydrangeas, and the bottom bouquet had 2 bouquets of black and purple roses with eyeballs, and 2 bouquets of purple hydrangeas.
Cut the flowers from the bouquets but leave the stem 2-3 inches long. you’re able to cut the wire stems with scissors but it was a little hard to cut them and bend them to break it apart from the main stem but since that’s all I had on hand, I went with it but you can use wire cutters.
You can start with the top or the bottom but I started to add the roses from two bouquets at the bottom of the wreath by piercing the Spanish moss and mesh.
Turn the wreath around and carefully twist the ends of the stems together as much as you can. To secure the flowers even more, wrap some flower wire around them and secure them to the wreath wire. Continue this process until you have all the desired flowers covering half of the wreath.
Here comes the messy part
After placing the last bouquet of flowers, fill out the rest of the wreath with the Spanish moss by tucking it under one of the wreath wires and covering the wire by folding some of the moss over. This part gets really messy because tons of debris from pulling and handling the moss start dropping like crazy.
Finishing touches
Time to add your skeleton mermaid! I hung the skeleton by its head to the top of the wreath to cover the floral wire that I used.
Cover the wreath with spider webbing and add some black plastic spiders or some creepy crawlers for a spookier vibe and you’re done! Hang your Mermaid skeleton halloween wreath on your door with a gold wreath hanger, add a Stay Spooky or Hello Pumpkin door mat and enjoy the view!
Try finding most of these items at the dollar store, you’ll be surprised at how many of these items I was able to get there to make this wreath possible.
