Have an extra mirror laying around in the garage or in the back of your sofa and you don’t know what to do with it? I have the perfect Haunted mirror with a skeleton project to add to your Halloween DIY decorations!
WARNING! Depending on the location in your home, this mirror might scare the living out of you every now and then in the middle of the night. I got used to it now but my soul jumped out of my body a few times when I was getting water in the middle of the night…fun times!

I already had a mirror sitting in my garage collecting nothing but dust so I decided to make use of it this Halloween. I said bye bye to my DIY sunburst mirror and hello to this haunted skeleton mirror that measures 24 inches by 20 inches.
I used a 3 ft skeleton that had flexible joints and took off the bottom half of the skeleton.
You don’t have a mirror sitting somewhere in your home? you can use some metallic wrapping paper to replicate the look of the mirror and an old frame to complete the faux mirror look.
Hang in there
Time to hang that skeleton! Now this was a little tricky because gravity does not help you here.
Have someone hold the mirror while you position the skeleton where you want to have it on your mirror and cut some clear fishing line to the desired length.
It took me over 20 minutes to position Mr Bones on my own!
You want to hang your skeleton by the bottom of the spine and the top of the spine right under the head. Start by hanging the bottom of the spine by applying some hot glue to the mirror in a u-shape. Once it’s dry, sit the bottom of the spine of your skeleton with the fishing line already attached and tie it to the back of the mirror.
Tie a separate fishing line to the back and lean your skeleton to the desired length and tie the line on the spine under the skull.
You might need to tie a third line if your skeleton is leaning more towards one side. Mr Bones was leaning too much to the left so I tied a line on his shoulder and centered him.
Coming out
To make Mr Bones look like he’s coming out of the mirror I crumpled aluminum foil, wrapped it around the spine until I got the look I wanted, and glued it to the mirror.
Finishing Touches
The frame of my mirror wasn’t vintage enough so I wasn’t too keen on leaving the entire frame of my mirror exposed. I decided to glue some Spanish moss on the frame of the mirror with the hot glue. I left some of the Spanish moss hanging in the middle where the clear fishing line was to hide it as much as I could.
Add some spider webs and make sure to cover your skeleton with them. Don’t forget those pesky little plastic spiders and you are done
